Chinese people eagerly wait for their longest holidays in a year. The celebration starts with a family gathering and a family feast. It’s a festivity of love, celebrations, lion dances, and fireworks display.  
Beliefs of New year

  • Shouldn’t prefer hair wash in the first 3 days as it wash away good luck
  •  Complete No No to begging or taking a loan
  • Wear red undergarment
  • A child shouldn’t cry as it can bring bad luck so he/she is pampered during these days

CNY is Chinese New year as well as their currency.

Date varies
The whole world celebrates January 1 as the New Year on one hand. On the other hand, Chinese elaborately celebrate it with pomp and show as per lunar calendar.  This falls between mid of January to mid of February. 28 January is the date for Chinese New Year in 2017.



Animal based
Out of 12 Zodiac animals, each animal gets to live like a king for a year. It’s believed that people born in each animal’s year would have some traits of that animal. In 2017, It’s a year of Rooster. Usually, Roosters are observant, practical, sensitive, active and thoughtful. Similarly, those born with the sign of rooster will have similar traits.


Red Rules   
Red represents fire. People decorate surroundings with, red color using banners, paper strips and the dragons made of red color. Even people wear red clothes. It is believed that ferocious beasts are scared and frightened off by red banners and signs.  Usually, younger generation gets red envelope from their family members. These envelopes have money in it. It’s a common practice that companies offer a bonus to their employees during this time. This reinforces positive feeling and shows a sign of prosperity.

Home buying and Shopping are top priority lists
Flushed with bonus and everyone buys a customary exchange of gifts for their near and dear ones. Retailers offer heavy discounts and attractive offers. It’s a bumper season for retailers. During this time, Chinese real estate’s launch new property as it’s a holiday event. There is ample time for property hunting and investing. With the increase in Affluent Chinese wealth, now people are investing out of china as well.  

Longest Holidays
Chinese peak traveling season happens during New Year and spring festival. Holidays are announced officially for 7 days. It continues for 15 days to nearly a month. Even government and private companies are shut down. Basically, all Chinese people enjoy a long vacation at the same time.  People happily invest in the global tour, shopping, and eating. Millions of Chinese prefer to go home and enjoy with their family members.   

Railway, Buses, and Airplanes are completely booked
As per CNN, Railway tickets online are bought on an average of 1000 per seconds. All modes of transport are jam-packed. High-speed railway networks, good roads, and airport connections are a marvel of logistic in China. Recently with the growing population of middle-class people, they opt for personal car drive with the family members. Traffic jam has become a regular feature in the holidays. A few escape for a vacation abroad.


All the foreigners staying in China must buy groceries before the holiday starts. Enjoy the decoration and traditional lion dances in the streets.
